Mycobacterium abscessus subspecies classification has important clinical implications. We used phylogenomic network and amino acid analyses to provide evidence for the separation of Mycobacterium bolletii and Mycobacterium massiliense into two distinct subspecies which can potentially be differentiated rapidly by their protein signatures.en_US
